The Louvre Pyramid serves as the entrance to the Louvre Museum in Paris. The glass pyramid was designed by architect I.M. Pei and completed in 1989. The Louvre Pyramid was controversial due to the contrast of its ultra modern design compared to the classical design of the museum. The museum’s original entrance could no longer adequately accommodate the large numbers of visitors coming to the museum. The pyramid sits over a subterranean museum entrance that provides access to various parts of the museum.
