Mount Diablo, seen with a layer of snow in this jigsaw puzzle, is a well known part of the scenery in the San Francisco Bay area. Visible from most parts of the Bay area, Mount Diablo, which means devil’s mountain, is steeped in mythology. Native tribes from this area used to tell creation myths that considered this mountain to be the original birthplace of all humans. Sadly, most of the myths have been lost, but one of the remaining fragments asserts that Coyote, one of the gods, and Eagle, the chief god, lived on this mountain and on another peak. Surrounded by water, they stood on their peaks and created mankind.
