The Nekar river front in Tübingen, Germany, is one of the most colorful vistas of the old university town. In this jigsaw puzzle, the multicolored pastel houses stand under a soft cover of early winter snow, while the water below them, still unfrozen, reflects them with a mirror-like quality.
The city of Tübingen itself was first mentioned in the 11th century, and the houses of the waterfront were built in the Middle Ages, creating the distinctive haphazard amalgamation of forms and sizes, including a traditional half-timbered house. In the forefront, a single leafless tree hints at the procession of stately plane trees for which the university town is also famous.
