Sea turtles constitute two families of marine reptiles: family Cheloniidae and family Dermochelyidae. The latter are leatherback turtles. Adults may measure a few feet in length and weigh hundreds of pounds. Sea turtles inhabit nearly every ocean on earth. The sea turtle in this jigsaw puzzle was found offshore at Hawaii. Typically, they swim in shallow, coastal areas. Some will take to the open sea and even migrate across oceans.
Sea turtles may be carnivores or herbivores. They can change their diet over the course of their lifetime. Presently all species of sea turtles are endangered in one way or another. It is illegal to harm or interfere with them. Some governments around the world have established refuges for these creatures.
