Cefalu, on the northern coast of Sicily, is one of Italy’s most ancient and culturally rich cities. Europeans discovered this region long ago, and gained an appreciation for the area’s spectacular Mediterranean beaches, as exampled in this jigsaw puzzle, and its lively nightlife. For those who want more, Cefalu is a living archeological tour. One can still walk among the remains of the original hilltop fortress town which is of Greek origin. The fortress was built several hundred years before the birth of Christ. The influence of both Byzantine and Norman conquerors is evident the town’s 900-year-old cathedral. Roman baths and beautifully kept Renaissance churches and towers mark the city’s Italian history.
