A Gondola is a traditional Venetian rowing boat. They were the main source of travel in Venice, Italy for centuries. Today, these boats have an iconic role in the public transportation system in Venice. Tourists ride around in these handmade masterpieces as a way to view the city and enjoy a romantic ride. They serve as a ferry as they taxi passengers through the Grand Canal. They are also used in special races that are held amongst the gondoliers.
